Samplers from the Carrow House Museum Collection

Available as Chart Packs with an image and history of the original, full chart of the design and suggested threads and fabric.
Proceeds from the sale of these charts will go towards the upkeep of the Museum.

Carrow House Costume and Textile Study Centre is now open! It is much more user friendly and there is better access for viewing items and the excellent study library. All the embroidery samplers have now been re-boxed & re-catalogued & Phillipa and her colleague Audrey, also a volunteer, are now working their way through the plain sewing ones!

Marianne Wenn

Marianne Wenn was born near Wroxham in Norfolk in 1803.  Her sampler, worked in cross and eyelet stitches, is full of delightful motifs and an uplifting verse.  The two ladies in red cloaks and tall hats have a local connection. Size 22 x 31 cms.

Jessy, born in Norwich in1820, has filled her cross-stitch sampler with a selection of simple buildings, trees, peacocks, deer and camel

‘A diligent Scholar…’

Sophia Brunton was also a Norwich Girl.  Her well-spaced sampler of alphabets, numbers and lovely arcading is worked in cross and eyelet stitches.
